Thank you for taking the time to visit my blog / website at brian-haughton.com. I am an author and researcher on the subjects of ancient civilizations, prehistoric monuments, and supernatural folklore. On this website you will find the latest information about my books and how to order them, as well as details of personal appearances and interviews. You can also read sample book chapters and non-fiction articles, mainly on ancient peoples, artefacts and monuments, as well supernatural folklore.
Born in Birmingham, England, I am a qualified archaeologist with a BA in European Archaeology from the University of Nottingham, and an MPhil in Greek Archaeology from Birmingham University.
My first book, Hidden History: Lost Civilizations, Secret Knowledge, and Ancient Mysteries was published by New Page in January 2007, and has been translated into eleven languages, including German, Russian, Greek and Thai. My second – Haunted Spaces, Sacred Places, which concentrates on the folklore and myths surrounding ancient sacred sites, was published in July 2008. My third book for New Page, about the folklore of the ghost story, entitled The Lore of the Ghost, was published in September, 2008. History’s Mysteries – the long-awaited follow up to Hidden History, was published in May 2010. My latest book, Ancient Treasures, which covers the world of the looting of ancient sites and the black market in ancient antiquities, was published in July 2013.
My articles have appeared in magazines across the world including, Popular Archaeology, All Destiny, the Online Ancient History Encyclopedia and the UKs Ghost Voices Magazine. My work on the Princess Caraboo hoax has been used by the B.B.C. on a number of occasions. I am a member of the Folklore Society (England), and a contributor to the Online Ancient History Encyclopedia. I long ago fell for the lure of the ancient world and tales of the supernatural, initially inspired by visiting the Neolithic chambered tombs of the Cotswold Hills in England and by reading the ghost stories of Sheridan Le Fanu and M.R. James.
I currently live and write in south Oxfordshire.
